Sennheiser HD25-1 II Headphones Review

As a DJ you need good headphones, if you can’t hear all the details of the track your mixing will not be as good as it potentially could be. It’s important to choose good quality headphones which provide clear sound. In 13 years of DJ experience I have tried many headphones, some good and some bad. This time I was looking at the Sennheiser HD25-1 II headphones and here is my review.

senheiser HD25 1 II headphones review

The Sennheiser HD25-1 II Closed Back Headphones are very lightweight — only 5 ounces, they have a capsule that you can rotate for one ear listening, look sleek and offer high attenuation of background noises.

They have a robust build and perform well in exceptionally high noise environments like a nightclub. They are designed for DJ & studio use.

Sennheiser is a well known audio company, they specialise in headphones and microphones for casual and professional users. They have a wide range of products that vary in price and quality.

A lot of DJs use Sennheiser headphones and believe they are one of the best on the market. In my opinion that wasn’t the case.

Sennheiser HD25-1 II

This Sennheiser model is very comfortable, maybe a little small for me but again I don’t have a very big head. You can still wear them for a long time as again, they’re light and comfortable.

The bass is really powerful but the high frequencies felt a bit muffled which I wasn’t too happy with as I like to hear everything as clear as possible.

I didn’t like that you can’t fold them, which can be tricky when traveling as they can easily break and the cables on the cups can come out and break.

The manufacturer claims they are very robust and can take a beating, yet from my experience and my colleagues experience they break easily after just a few months. I know people that broke them so many times but for some reason always went back and bought a new pair. Some people love them some hate them.

Another point is that the cable is very short, which can be annoying. They are not that bad though, as they still perform well and are a great option if you are on a budget.

To sum up the review, I have listed the pros and cons of these headphones:

  • Comfortable
  • Good bass
  • Lightweight
  • Decent price
  • Replaceable parts

  • Not the best mid and high frequencies
  • Easily breaks
  • Not foldable
  • Might be too small
  • Exposed wires

They sell for $250-$300 in stores all over the world, but you might find a better deal on Amazon.

Alternative Options

If you’re looking for good headphones at a decent price with better functions, I would recommend:

V-Moda headphones

V-moda Crossfade

Audio Technica MTX50

Audio-Technica ATH-M 50x

If you are on the hunt for a new set of headphones, I recommend going to your nearest retailer, test out a variety of headphones and make your decision. As every person is different, you need to find the headphones which are right for you.
